Pacific Zone Fall Rolling Rally Oregon
September 9 - 23, 2011

92111 cacade locks sternwheelerThe Rolling Adventure Rally of the Northwest was a rounding success. I heard many comments from those who were with us that they thought it was so much better than the normal rally which stays in one place. Several members were new to RVF rallies and commented that they thought our rally was much better than the rallies of other organizations they had attended mainly because we were friendlier.

The rally started in Baker City, OR, moved to Hell’s Canyon with a stop at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. We spent a day in Hells Canyon running the rapids (they claimed two were class 4 but I thought they were more class three). After that we were on to on to Joseph, Oregon, the summer home of Mike and Beth Reid. They were wonderful hosts putting on two dinners, one at their house and the other at the ranch. Then on to La Grand, OR to visit an early American museum and to meet artist David Manual who showed us the start of his next two sculptures.

Next were three days on the Columbia River visiting Maryhill Museum where we had lunch, a short visit to Stonehenge, some wine at a local winery, lunch at the historic Columbia Gorge Hotel, a visit to Bonneville dam and a day’s ride on a sternwheeler in the beautiful gorge. Finally, with good weather prevailing throughout the rally, we visited Mt St Helens. We traveled 640 miles (not including local travel). Kirk and Jackie Greiner are already thinking of another rolling rally to different places in the Northwest and Canada. Fall weather and rain arrived two days after our rally ended.
