Rolling Rotarians Fall Rally

Beginning with the early arrivals on Wednesday we were off to a great start.  Since we were somewhat removed from a city with restaurants and other services, Ann Brieger, our Real Wagonmaster, had prepared food for most of the meals, beginning with supper of sandwich makings, etc. on Wednesday, and Taco Soup and Cornbread for lunch on Thursday, to full breakfasts each morning - sausage gravy & biscuits - pancakes - and a variety of cereals, fruits & drinks, to the evening meal Thursday of Beef Burgundy with Rice, and, the trimmings to go with the Friday evening meal of "grill your own steak".

Even with the emphasis on rest & relaxation, the 38 attendees enjoyed a variety of activities.  On Friday, most of the women went into San Marcos to visit and tour the Millie Seaton Doll House, followed by lunch at Crystal River Inn, and the men went to the Greater San Marcos Rotary Club.  That evening, after grilling our own steaks, we were treated to a return engagement to the group of the noted humorist speaker, Dr. Charles Jarvis.  He regaled those assembled so effectively that when he ended his talk, many wished that he would have continued on and on.  On Saturday, we travelled to a nearby community of Lockhart for lunch at a famous bar-b-que place and that evening we all  gathered at the home of the Briegers in San Marcos for Attitude Adjustment Hour preceding our dinner at Mamacita's Restaurant.

At our business meeting, a fund raising opportunity was provided for our group.  As the result of a bit of a misunderstanding, regarding the campground's commitment for sites that had previously been agreed to and then changed, the campground owner provided a reduced rate per site.  This enabled our group to designate the amount of the refund, which was $300.00, as a donation to the fund used by Rotary RVF to provide the annual highway safety gift.  Everyone was most pleased to have the opportunity to do this.

Those attending were from Texas, Arkansas, California & Oklahoma, and judging from the comments at the end of the the Rally, a great time was had by all!!
